In 2021, a modern residential complex with 13 condominiums including underground parking was built on the banks of the Werre River in Herford. The project was implemented by the local Plangruppe-Bau GmbH & Co. KG. For the surface drainage, the customer, who is also the architect of the complex and resident of the penthouse, relied on wastewater technology from Jung Pumpen.
Surface drainage with MultiDrain UV 600
The conditions
Since the three-storey complex could be completely drained by gravity and there were no drainage objects such as washing machines etc. in the basement, pump technology was required exclusively for surface drainage. This involved a sealed area of 340 m2 consisting of parking areas, the paved entrance area and the ramp into the underground car park.
The surface water runs through gutters, which are located on the parking areas as well as in the middle and at the end of the ramp, into a 3.50 m deep concrete sump in front of the building. Further drains are installed in the floor of the underground car park, which also channel the water into the sump.
Consultation and pump selection
In order to be able to make and offer the optimal pump selection, the responsible consultant from the pump manufacturer Jung Pumpen, together with the planner, gained an overview on site. All areas were measured, all requirements and the individual structural conditions were taken into account and included in the design calculation.
The basis for calculating the amount of rainwater is the so-called Kostra tables. These are precipitation statistics published by the German Weather Service for all regions in Germany. For Herford and the area in question, the result was a discharge rate of 10 l/s.
In this case, it was necessary for the pumps to lift the collected surface water from the sump via a pressure pipe into a gravity pipe. This and other details were included in the calculations, which selected the optimal pump for the individual case with the help of the ProPumpSizer software.
Suitable pump technology and control system
In the end, the optimal solution was a double unit MultiDrain UV 625. These powerful stainless steel submersible pumps reliably convey drainage, waste and surface water with admixtures of up to 10 mm. The maximum delivery head is 25.5 m, the maximum flow rate 39 m3/h. The motor jacket cooling prevents the motor from overheating, even during emerged operation. The horizontal connection allows installation with a guide rail system (GR 50). Since the pumps were installed in a concrete shaft provided by the customer, a stainless steel installation kit was used. All fittings in this set are matched to each other and can be flexibly adapted. A HighLogo microprocessor control monitors the double system and switches the pumps on and off depending on the level. It is housed in a technical room in the underground car park and connected to the pumps in the outside sump via an empty conduit.
Voices of those involved
Wolfgang Pollmeier, Managing Director of Plangruppe-Bau GmbH & Co. KG from Herford and also an architect and resident:
"We have often worked with Jung Pumpen on a wide variety of drainage projects and I rely on the competent professional advice as well as the high-quality products."
Benjamin Sieks, site manager of the executing installation company ADK Kälte-Klima-Heizung-Sanitär GmbH & Co. KG from Herford:
"We have had very good experience with Jung Pumpen products for many years. The pumps are of high quality and the accessories are also well thought-out and save time on the construction site. In this case, the double system had to be installed in a concrete sump provided by the customer. The right sliding pipe system was available for exactly this purpose, along with the crossbar and fastening material."
Marco Krüger, specialist consultant for the pump manufacturer Jung Pumpen for East Westphalia and the surrounding area:
"Every building or property drainage system has its own special requirements. It is important to me to offer the optimal pump technology for the individual case, both technically and economically. This is best done together with the parties involved, personally and on site."
